Stipend and insurance for a general scholar on the Chinese Government Scholarship

The Chinese Government Scholarship covers four items: tuition fees, a free university dormitory or an accommodation subsidy, a stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance. For a general scholar, the stipend is CNY 3,000 per month, and the insurance is CNY 800 per person per year. These figures are set in Section III of the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship, published by the China Scholarship Council (Campus China).

The four items

Section III lists the following items:

  1. Tuition fees.
  2. A free university dormitory or an accommodation subsidy.
  3. A stipend.
  4. Comprehensive medical insurance.

Stipend by category

Section III, item 3 sets a monthly stipend for each category. The general scholar line appears together with master's students.

Medical insurance

Section III, item 4 sets two amounts:

  • CNY 800 per person per year.
  • CNY 400 per person, for programmes lasting less than six months.

Duration

Section II, part (II), "Duration", states that the Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. The same part states that the language courses last one year. For major study, it says the duration of the scholarship conforms to that as required.

Categories supported

Section II, part (I), "Supporting Categories", states that Chinese Government Scholarship programmes sponsor undergraduates, postgraduates, general and senior scholars.
