Online Chinese study programmes: the HSK lines and what the scholarship supports

The 2025 Application Guidelines for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship name two online programmes: a one-year programme and a one-semester programme. Item 8 gives the HSK line for each one, which applies "under most circumstances". Appendix 1, item 1 says the scholarship's support for online programmes is for tuition fees only.

See also HSK on this site.

These conditions belong to the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship only. They are not general admission rules for students who pay their own fees. The guidelines used here are the 2025 edition, so read the current year's guidelines from the publisher before planning a start.

The two online programmes

Programme (item 8) Start months HSK line
Online Program for One-Year Chinese Language Study (item 8(a)) September or March each year "Under most circumstances, a score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3) is required"
Online Program for One-Semester Chinese Language Study (item 8(b)) September or March each year "Under most circumstances, an HSK test score (regardless of level or score) is required"

The HSK line in item 8(a) is a required score of 180 at Level 3. The HSK line in item 8(b) asks for an HSK test score with no level or score attached.

Where an HSKK score fits

Item 8(a) adds that "priority will be given to those who also provide an HSKK test score." This is a priority for the one-year programme. Item 8(b) mentions only an HSK test score.

What the scholarship supports online

Appendix 1 begins by listing tuition, accommodation, living allowance (excluding four-week study program students) and comprehensive medical insurance as what the scholarship supports. Item 1 of Appendix 1 says that "the scholarships for online programs provide support for tuition fees only."

Questions

Does the scholarship cover accommodation or a living allowance for online programmes?

Is an HSKK score required for the online programmes?

Item 8(a) words the HSKK score as a priority, not as a requirement. Item 8(b) mentions only an HSK test score.
