HSK score reports: the two-year validity line
An HSK or HSKK score report is valid for two years, and the official test pages print that line for each level. Appendix 2, item A(b) of the 2025 Application Guidelines for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship asks for HSK/HSKK score reports "within the two-year validity". Section VI, item 5 of the Application Guide for the Chinese Government Scholarship asks for a valid HSK score report but gives no period.
See also HSK on this site.
This page covers only how long a score report stays valid for an application. It does not cover test content.
The validity line on each test page
The table lists the validity line printed on each level page, with the date the validity is counted from.
| Test page | Validity line as printed | Counted from |
|---|---|---|
| HSK Level 3 | Valid for two years | The day of the exam |
| HSK Level 4 | Valid for two years | The exam date |
| HSK Level 5 | Valid for two years | The exam date |
| HSK Level 6 | Valid for two years | The exam date |
| HSKK Intermediate | Valid for two years | The test date |
| HSKK Advanced | Valid for two years | The test date |
The HSK pages count from the exam. The HSKK pages count from the test.
The International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
Appendix 2, item A(b) lists, for all applicants, "a scanned copy of score reports of the HSK/HSKK tests (within the two-year validity)". Item A(b) refers to the two-year validity but does not restate the date it starts from. The level pages above give that date.
The 2025 guidelines were published for the 2025 cycle, and all dates in them have passed. Read the guidelines for the current year. These conditions belong to this scholarship only. They are not general admission rules for students who fund their own study.
The Chinese Government Scholarship
Section VI, item 5 says that applicants for master's, doctoral, general scholar and senior scholar programmes taught in Chinese "must submit a valid HSK score report that meets the corresponding Chinese language proficiency requirements". Item 5 uses the word "valid" and gives no period. It names no level and no score.
Item 5 covers programmes taught in Chinese. For programmes taught in other languages, it asks for certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL score reports, in accordance with the requirements of each university. These conditions belong to the Chinese Government Scholarship only.
What the sources do not settle
- Item A(b) of Appendix 2 does not state the start date of the two-year validity.
- Section VI, item 5 states no validity period.
