Bachelor's in International Chinese Language Education: the scholarship conditions
The Application Guidelines for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2025, published by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), set the conditions for a bachelor's applicant: a senior high school diploma, a minimum score of 210 on HSK Level 4 and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level), and a program that starts in September 2025 for a maximum of four academic years. Category 3: start, length and diploma
Category 3 of the 2025 guidelines is the scholarship for a bachelor's degree in International Chinese Language Education. It reads:
- The program commences in September 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of four academic years.
- Applicants shall hold a senior high school diploma.
- Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
Age
Section I, item 5 sets the general age range for applicants to this scholarship: "Be aged between 16 and 35 years on September 1, 2025." The same item continues:
The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45, but those who apply for a scholarship for a Bachelor's degree shall be younger than 25 under most circumstances.
Application materials
Appendix 2 lists the materials for all applicants and for degree applicants. For a bachelor's applicant, the relevant items are:
- Appendix 2, item A(a): a scanned copy of the passport photo page.
- Appendix 2, item A(b): a scanned copy of score reports of the HSK/HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).
- Appendix 2, item A(c): a reference letter by the head of the Recommending Institution.
- Appendix 2, item B(d): a certificate of the highest diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.
Appendix 2, item E says applicants shall provide additional documents as required by the Host Institutions.
Living allowance for undergraduates
Appendix 1, item 3 sets the monthly living allowance. For undergraduates, one-year study program students and one-semester study program students, it is RMB 2,500 per person. The Host Institutions pay it to the scholarship recipients on a monthly basis. The appendix's introduction lists the living allowance among the items the scholarship supports, together with tuition, accommodation and comprehensive medical insurance.
Deadline for the September 2025 intake
Section III, item 2 sets the timetable for programs commencing in September:
- Applicants must complete their applications by May 15.
- Recommending Institutions and Host Institutions must complete the review by May 25.
Section III also states that online registration was available from February 20, 2025, and that the results will be announced about three months before the program starts. These dates belong to the 2025 cycle. Read the guidelines for the current year before you apply.
Test scores
The HSK and HSKK scores appear in Category 3, and Appendix 2, item A(b) asks for score reports. Section III says decisions will be based on HSK and HSKK levels and scores, geographical distribution, and other factors. This page does not describe the content or structure of the tests. Questions
Does this scholarship set the same conditions for all Chinese language students?
No. The conditions on this page are those of the 2025 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship in Category 3, Section I and the appendices. They are not general admission rules for language students who pay their own fees.
